Result on a trip actually fulfilled by cargo bike: 2.45 kg of CO2 saved. Applied to our real 2026 delivery mix in Paris (~25% cargo bike, the rest consolidated into a shared van during heatwaves, on tours of 6+ units or in outer areas), that averages to ≈ 0.61 kg of CO2 saved per delivery - roughly the equivalent of 6 km of petrol-car driving avoided, on logistics alone. Our goal: to grow the cargo-bike share season after season.
Methodology
Our numbers come from emission factors published by ADEME (Base Empreinte / Base Carbone) and from field data shared by Paris cyclo-logistics operators (Olvo, Les Coursiers Verts, Urby).

Diesel van: 250 g CO2e/km in real urban driving, freight included (ADEME).

Electric cargo bike: 5 g CO2e/km (amortised manufacturing + French electricity mix).

Average trip: 10 km round trip between our 12th arrondissement hub and the customer.

Scope: Direct delivery emissions only (not the AC unit's manufacturing, covered by our in-house servicing programme).

Actual 2026 mix: About 25% of our Paris deliveries are fulfilled by cargo bike; the rest is consolidated into a shared van (heatwaves, 6+ unit tours, outer areas). We use this real share to compute the ~0.61 kg weighted average - not a 100% bike scenario. We aim to grow it every season.

When we don't deliver by bike
Our priority is reliable delivery and rider safety. Cargo bikes are our default mode in Paris, but in three specific cases we switch to an air-conditioned van.

Above a certain temperature, carrying a portable AC in an un-ventilated cargo hold damages the equipment and puts our riders under strain. We switch to an air-conditioned van, which protects both the unit and the team.

Larger tours (B2B, events, healthcare facilities) are consolidated into an air-conditioned van: safer for the equipment, and per unit delivered the footprint stays very low.

Beyond a certain radius from our hubs, or where the road network isn't bike-friendly, cargo bikes no longer make sense. We group those deliveries into a shared van instead.

Every Climloc unit is serviced in-house and re-rented for several seasons: we avoid manufacturing a new appliance (~150 kg CO2e saved per unit).

A single AC unit serves 5 to 10 households per season. Cooling becomes a shared service rather than an underused appliance sitting in a basement 11 months a year.

Short-term rental encourages people to cool down only during real heat peaks - not by default, all season long.
